Our eye-sore of a garage is finally getting some attention. It is an old cinder block two story garage that never had any exterior “beautification” done to it, and it is UGLY. If this was our “forever” home we probably would tear it down and put up a more conventional, or at least more residential friendly garage type building.<\/p>\n

Basically what John is doing is applying a stucco finish or “parge”.\u00a0Our friend Paul, has offered to help and that makes me nervous. When these two get together to work on a project, you never know what could happen.<\/p>\n

They started the project on Monday with John gathering supplies and getting the sand. He\u00a0did the prep on Tuesday, setting up the mixer and making his “hawk”, a tool for holding and putting on the stucco.<\/p>\n

Paul came up on Wednesday and that is when they started the parging. Paul did the mixing, and John was applying it to the garage.<\/p>\n

They started on the dog run side of the garage until they were sure of the mixture and how to apply it. Since we don’t have the scaffolding yet, they are just working on the areas that can be reached from the ground.<\/p>\n

By Thursday\u00a0they had moved around to the front of the garage. It was actually starting to\u00a0look kind of nice.<\/p>\n

Today they were doing the backside of the garage. This is also the side that has our storage area so I wasn’t sure how they were going to get up there and not roll down the roof while applying the coating. Here is how they solved their dilemma – they built their own “catwalk”.<\/p>\n

If you notice from the picture John is too short to reach all the way to the roof from where he is standing. Not by much but enough to need a height boost.\u00a0So what\u00a0did he do? Stood on a ladder of course!!<\/p>\n

Apparently OSHA was nowhere to be found on this job. Fortunately or unfortunately, I was inside the house babysitting our grand-daughter Riesa while this was going on. I panicked when I saw the pictures, I can’t imagine what I would have done had I actually seen this. (I’ve taken him to the emergency room more than once during this house remodeling project)<\/p>\n

Thankfully all ended well. He has put all of his stuff away for the winter. The rest of the garage will be finished in the spring.<\/p>\n
