For those who have lived, do live or spent any kind of time living in an RV-type dwelling understand that the absorption-type, ammonia-cooled refrigerators work just fine, except for the freezer. The freezers do not get cold enough to freeze dairy product. You can make ice, freeze meats and vegetables, but ice cream? Forget about it.<\/p>\n

Well, with my new residential refrigerator that is all in the past. But first, some modifications to the cubby-hole of the old refrigerator need to be made so the new one will fit. First order of business is sorting out all the wiring and pipes.<\/p>\n

John says that this is similar to how the simulators are wired in that rather than removing length of wiring that isn\u2019t needed they just bundled it all together with wire-ties. They even used the similar plugs to connect the front half to the back half.<\/p>\n

Once all the wires and pipes were identified it was time to remove the decking for the refrigerator that also created a set of two drawers below the old fridge. Yeah, sad to be losing those but\u2026ice cream. This required the saws-all.<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t want to come out easily, but with a lot of cutting and pulling and more cutting and pulling, finally he was able to get the decking out.<\/p>\n

Now, to figure out what all the new pipes and wires are for.<\/p>\n

A couple of things have to go. One is the old propane line that fed into the old refrigerator and the water line for the old ice maker that we never used and won\u2019t be using with the new refrigerator. Now that is a man-sized wrench!<\/p>\n

After that was all sorted he moved the electrical box from the side to the back of the opening, took some measurements, built supports and put the decking back in. A little bit of clean up and sweeping (my contribution) here it is, our refrigerator’s new home.<\/p>\n

I got a first hand lesson on how to lift something that is very heavy, inch and a half, by inch and a half, back and forth we rocked the fridge, putting supports under it as we went to get it high enough to slide into the opening. That was hard! My muscles are still sore, but\u2026ice cream.<\/p>\n

Hmm. Something isn\u2019t quite right. it isn\u2019t sitting the way it is supposed to.<\/p>\n

After some checking, it looks like it could be something with the decking. The front wheels are not in, maybe too low? It\u2019s going to have to come back out at some point and that addressed. Ugh. But\u2026ice cream.<\/p>\n

We have sometime before we will be moving the RV for John to figure it out. It looks good though. Now instead of having to stand on a step stool to see in the freezer, I need one to see the top shelf of the fridge.<\/p>\n
