We were all a little thirsty after all of our fun in the Governor\u2019s Palace Gardens so we stop by the corner pharmacy, McKenzie Apothecary.<\/p>\n

Just like the pharmacy in our time, this is where the colonist would come to seek a remedy for what ailed them. There were drawers and jars full of everything needed to cure headaches to skin irritations.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We were more interested in the drinks and the breads. The modern day point of sale equipment was strategically hidden out of sight.<\/p>\n

It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed strolling the streets admiring all of the great buildings.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Not every home in Williamsburg was someone important or famous, but for those that were there are plaques outside each home letting you know a little bit about each home. Some homes are not open for touring everyday.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The wisteria was in bloom all around us, unfortunately the flowers don\u2019t have much of a smell. Wish they smelled like lilacs!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I took us a little bit to figure out what a set of steps were doing in what seemed no place for stairs to be.<\/p>\n

Turns out they were used to climb up into some of the coaches. Here I thought the coaches had their steps attached to them somewhere. I mean what would you do if you got somewhere that didn\u2019t have a set of stairs like this?<\/p>\n

Were were fascinated with the intricate locks and mechanical devices that the colonist were able to come up with. We were told everything in the town was original or replicated exactly as it was in the 1700s.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This is their answer to a rotisserie. Set the weight, it slowly drops, turning the wheels that turn the spit. When it gets to the bottom, reset it again.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

They did all of this without electricity or Google! Come to think of it, how did they get all of the things they needed? Sure, some stuff they brought with them, some stuff is being shipped from England (a 4 month trip one way) but things break and new needs arise.<\/p>\n
