Multiple men, related or not, friendly or not, stayed in the same room, even sharing beds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5568_thumb3.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_5568_thumb[3]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5568_thumb3_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C436&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_5568_thumb[3]\" width=\"580\" height=\"436\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Privacy back then was not a big deal like it is now and many times you had to pass through other sleeping quarters to get to yours.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5576_thumb2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_5576_thumb[2]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5576_thumb2_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C436&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_5576_thumb[2]\" width=\"580\" height=\"436\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rooms in that time period were multi-purpose. This room currently is setup classroom style and from the looks of the equipment the topic is astronomy. Most tables are drop leaf and can be pushed up against walls to make room for a dance perhaps or a large dinner party.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5580_thumb2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_5580_thumb[2]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5580_thumb2_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C436&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_5580_thumb[2]\" width=\"580\" height=\"436\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The King required all taverns to have a certain standard of room and dining accommodations and dictated the price to be charged. There were no other restrictions and the tavern owners did provide a higher standard of room and dining and price point for their other rooms.<\/p>\n<p>The bedrooms were more private and the dining accommodations more opulent. Not only were they served on fine china but the walls were adorned with portraits of famous persons and more impressive fine furniture displaying the tavern owner\u2019s wealth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5564_thumb2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_5564_thumb[2]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5564_thumb2_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C438&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_5564_thumb[2]\" width=\"580\" height=\"438\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For the King\u2019s dictated standard dining, there were pictures of outdoor scenes on the walls, less impressive furniture and the food was served on pewter plates.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5577_thumb2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_5577_thumb[2]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5577_thumb2_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C436&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_5577_thumb[2]\" width=\"580\" height=\"436\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The reason for the pewter plates was quite simple, kitchens were outside and it was too easy to break a plate when bringing it from the kitchen to the house.<\/p>\n<p>The meals were simple: meat, vegetables, potatoes, and there was no menu. You got what the cook was preparing that day.<\/p>\n<p>In the backyard, along with the kitchen, was the smokehouse, well, scullery, and garden.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5585_thumb1.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_5585_thumb[1]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5585_thumb1_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C436&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_5585_thumb[1]\" width=\"580\" height=\"436\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, there isn\u2019t a great deal of room to prepare a variety of foods, nor did they have the resources to exploit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/STC_5596_thumb2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"STC_5596_thumb[2]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/STC_5596_thumb2_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C436&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"STC_5596_thumb[2]\" width=\"580\" height=\"436\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking of food\u2026.time for lunch. We were told the best food in Colonial Williamsburg was Chowining\u2019s Tavern.<\/p>\n<p>They seated us in an upper floor room at our own table. We noticed that even though the restaurant had empty tables they would seat strangers together at the same table, especially those in two\u2019s. The other tables were used for bigger groups.<\/p>\n<p>This is apparently how it was done in Colonial times.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5610_thumb1.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_5610_thumb[1]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5610_thumb1_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C436&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_5610_thumb[1]\" width=\"580\" height=\"436\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We even got serenaded during our meal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5607_thumb1.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_5607_thumb[1]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5607_thumb1_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C436&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_5607_thumb[1]\" width=\"580\" height=\"436\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I saw some unique artwork on the wall that seemed to be an advertisement of some sort for corsets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5609_thumb3.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"IMG_5609_thumb[3]\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.2dogsbarkin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5609_thumb3_thumb.jpg?resize=580%2C727&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_5609_thumb[3]\" width=\"580\" height=\"727\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After a delicious meal we were off to the shopping district. Most activities in the town wrap up by 5pm so it was back to the modern world.<\/p>\n<p>The guys couldn\u2019t help locking us up first.
