There were just two bedrooms upstairs and one was significantly larger than the other. Both bedrooms did have closets in them before we started.<\/p>\n

\nThis was (and still is)  the larger of the two bedrooms. It had a free standing toilet and sink to accomodate the previous, aging occupants of the house and a small closet. The room did not have a door, and unfortunately or fortunately it had a strange opening so construction of a custom made door was also in order.<\/p>\n

There was a lot of wide open wall space above a ledge running the length of the room, and we thought that some built-in shelving for additional storage space would add to the empty space and make the ledge fit into the room better.<\/p>\n

We decided to use the closet space from this room plus a little extra and the closet space from the smaller bedroom to put in a second bathroom.  We were then going to create a closet \/ storage area in the hallway leading into the larger bedroom which would replace the closet lost from the small bedroom.<\/p>\n

The large bedroom is spacious enough that we will be able to add a closet later.<\/p>\n

\nIn the first picture you can see where John constructed a new wall for the upstairs bathroom and that it leads through to both bedrooms.<\/p>\n

By building in a frame and custom building the door he created a “castle” type door which was Brittany’s request.<\/p>\n

The shelves he added weren’t very wide but enough to hold some nick-nacks and the like.<\/p>\n

We repainted the cast iron heater to a hammered copper look and painted the walls tan and green with the trim a dark brown. <\/p>\n

After the carpet is in we will add molding at the bottom.  So for now I’m not going to put up any pictures in the “After” section until the carpet is down.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
