We left Culbertson MT, Wednesday, October 15 around noon. Yes that is a lot later than we usually start a days journey but we were still trying to reset to being day-dwellers.<\/p>\n

With high winds expected all day Thursday we wanted to get as far as we could on Wednesday. That ended up being a campground at Bowman-Haley Lake in Montana. We spent all day Thursday riding out 40mph sustained winds with 60mph gusts. Good thing neither of us are susceptible to sea sickness the way the coach was rocking.<\/p>\n

Friday the winds were gone so we hit the road and travelled to Deadwood SD. We stayed at the Whistlers Gulch RV park, one of the few still open this late in the season.<\/p>\n

This RV park is located next to the Frerichs mine and mill site. Though the old processing plant is located on private land the actual mine area is on BLM land, easily accessed from the campground.<\/p>\n

Left behind was some of the rock crushing equipment used in the mining process.<\/p>\n

and some other piece of equipment that I have not a clue what its purpose was in the process.<\/p>\n

As well as the gold mine access point.<\/p>\n

Gold mining is what drew settlers to Deadwood. Not sure what made them stay.<\/p>\n
