We arrived at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, September 24th, our new home until the beet harvest is over. We have several days to adjust to our new work schedule 7pm to 7am. Yep the night shift.<\/p>\n

The weekend before the harvest was scheduled to start, we attended an Antique Tractor and Farm show.<\/p>\n

We thought of John Mostellor the moment we arrived on the grounds. There was a lot of old farm equipment on display.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Talk about a fixer-upper. Looks like it hasn\u2019t moved in a while.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

If I remember correctly John\u2019s favorites are hit-and-miss engines and there were plenty to be found and quite a few were up and running.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Hit-and-miss engines are used at the Kowas Lodge in Africa, where we went on our safari in 2010, to pump water from holding tanks to water holes for the animals. It was cool to find a similar setup at the show.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Out in the field was a long line of antique tractors.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Yes the Antique tractors all worked, it was a requirement to participate in the show.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Sometimes there were some issues getting them started. See the hand crank? Yep they cranked on that to get it started\u2026well it eventually started.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Others had keys, but it didn\u2019t make them any easier to start.<\/p>\n

After the parade of tractors was over they served up some DELICIOUS pulled pork sandwiches. Yummy!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
