Wow! It seems to be getting colder, and windier as the day goes on. The clouds that are gathering look like snow clouds and made for some stunning visuals of the geyser basin.<\/p>\n

There are two parts to the Norris Basin and we started with the Porcelain section first.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

A large portion of the pools in this area are the beautiful blue color that I\u2019m becoming quite enamored with; I could take pictures of these pools all day long. The milky appearance is caused by high concentrations of silica (main component of glass).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Though the colors of the Porcelain Springs may not be as colorful as others the features formed by the sinter are beautiful and remind me of frozen water. Or could that be because it is getting colder!!<\/p>\n

The colors around the Whirligig Geyser demonstrate the \u201cLiving Thermometer\u201d very vividly. The rust \/ orange color comes from iron that has been oxidized by thermophiles.<\/p>\n

The boardwalk that winds through Porcelain Basin bridges over very hot very acidic waters. Even with the heat radiating up, Mother Nature is \u201cturning up the cold\u201d as the day goes on.<\/p>\n
