Well, our 1st Annual Cabin Fever party has come and gone. The food has been eaten, the beer has been drunk and the dishes put away. Cooper and Sophie are still trying to figure out what this day was all about and why they didn’t get any of the good food.<\/p>\n
It was about 40 degrees today and sunny. John built a fire in the wood burning stove in the garage and a fire in the chiminea on the porch to help the \u201coutside\u201d people stay warm. The guys stayed outside for the most part while the cooking was in progress. There were two deep firers going, one for the turkey and one for the crabs.<\/p>\n
In addition to the 20lbs of crab legs and 15lbs of turkey there was a lot of great food contributed by our guests. Several people had never eaten crab legs fresh out of the shell and that added some fun to the meal watching those people trying to figure out how to get the crab meat out of the shell. Paul and Mandy’s boys had the most unique techniques for cracking the shells. They ate out in the garage at the table John had setup so they had lots of tools available to help them crack the shells. Their tools of choice were hammers and pliers.<\/p>\n
My Dad debuted his homemade beer and root beer that he had been working on for a month or so. The beer was very good, with little to no bitter after taste. It was a hit to say the least. We made root beer floats and his homemade root beer made them taste more delicious.<\/p>\n
It was nice to get friends together that had never met before but knew of each other through conversations. Me-me really enjoyed the crab legs and said anytime we are having them again, let her know and she will be over for dinner.
