We said our goodbyes to the couple camping next to us at Rockhound State Park as we both broke camp this morning. They are heading home to Michigan and we have moved to City of Rocks, a state park north of Rockhound.<\/p>\n

City of Rocks was formed when the volcano Kneeling Nun Tuff erupted violently, though it is not known exactly how long ago this occurred. Scientist figure the explosion would have been 1000 times greater than the Mt. Saint Helens eruption. The volcanic activity that created the City of Rocks would have continued for years.<\/p>\n

The rock formations are arranged like a city. There are \u201cstreets\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

back alleys<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

and trees and benches that complete the cityscape picture.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Just like any city the birds make use of the tall \u201cbuildings\u201d for nest building. This is a picture of a raven\u2019s nest. The bird was in the nest but you can\u2019t really see it in the picture.<\/p>\n

We are only going to be here for 5 days before heading back to Deming, NM, but we are going to pack in a lot of sightseeing in those few days.<\/p>\n

It is time to start getting ourselves in position to meet up with our friends John and Sharon in a few weeks, and then begin our slow trek North.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
