We have come to Rockhound State Park with the intent of meeting people to help John learn more about rockhounding.<\/p>\n

Rockhound State park was established because of its interesting geology. It is located in the Florida Mountains (pronounced flo rita) which are mostly made of volcanic mud called rhyolite. The big draw to this area is its proliferation of thunder eggs and geodes.<\/p>\n

We spent sometime scoping out the park and decided to take a hike up Spring Canyon, Rockhound\u2019s day use and picnic area.<\/p>\n

The view at the top of the mountain was worth the strenuous hike to the top.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve often commented to John about the sunsets in this part of the country, that it isn\u2019t just the setting sun that puts on a show.<\/p>\n

The surrounding mountains offer their own show; gray by day, but brilliant at sunset.<\/p>\n
