We like to explore and this campground has a lot to explore.<\/p>\n

A LONG time ago this area of New Mexico was covered by the ocean. As a result, a lot of salt and gypsum was left behind when the ocean receded.<\/p>\n

Whenever it rains, or standing water recedes, the cycle of dissolving the salt in the soil and the evaporation of the water leaves the ground white with the salt. It looks like snow.<\/p>\n

Well we just had to see this up close, obviously, so we hiked down into the lake bed.<\/p>\n

The salt layer isn\u2019t very deep but it looked enough like snow to give me this overwhelming urge to draw something. I thought of my granddaughter\u2026<\/p>\n

When we were climbing the ridge around the park we found another hole in the gorund. The sink holes are EVERYWHERE! You can\u2019t go very far without running into one. This is one of the dry ones.<\/p>\n

We have seen some interesting cati too. This is the biggest one we have seen so far. Most of them have been small, 1 foot tall or smaller. This one was about 3 feet tall.<\/p>\n

A lot of people ask us how Sophie is doing and if she is enjoying the traveling life style. Judge for yourself. She seems happy to us.<\/p>\n
