While researching where to go next while still at Medina Lake, John discovered that Texas has a wine country. Oh, we so have to go there, we thought.<\/p>\n

Just outside of Fredericksburg, TX in the village of Stonewall is a a nice little campground called Peach Country RV Park, that we are staying in. Too bad it isn\u2019t peach season, John would have been in heaven. There are peach orchards EVERYWHERE (kinda like the deer in Medina Lake), but they are all closed for the season.<\/p>\n

We found that the red wines in Texas are much milder in tannins than up north and the Spanish grapes that grow well here produce a very unique wine.<\/p>\n

The Shiraz here in Texas is quite different. We haven\u2019t liked any of them so far. The wine actually tastes like a horse barn or farmyard smells. They call it \u201cearthy\u201d, we call it yuck.<\/p>\n

We only stopped at three wineries out of the 50 or so here. Unfortunately our make-shift wine cellar is still pretty full leaving us with not much room to put more wine. What a shame I know.<\/p>\n

Anyhow, Pedernales Winery turned out to be my favorite. They had what is called a GSM red, that is wonderful for just sipping. It is blended from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre. It was so good we took a glass of it out on their patio and enjoyed the warm weather.<\/p>\n

The park host informed us that the Pedernales Winery is right behind the RV park and that there is a \u201cshort cut\u201d from the park to the winery. How wonderful is that?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
