Now that mom\u2019s pain is well-controlled, she wants to live it up when she can. Most outings take a lot out of her; therefore, we plan carefully. Her favorite journey is visiting one of her favorite restaurants.<\/p>\n

After a good breakfast and visiting with friends, she is ready for a good nap. We have bird feeders close to the windows so she can watch them while she is resting. There is a little mouse that comes to the one window feeder, and we have named him\/her Jake 2.0. For some background, mom\u2019s daughter DeAnn used to have a little dog named Jake. One day, DeAnn took out mom\u2019s recycling, and a little mouse jumped out and scared her. That is how we came up with the name for the mouse. It never bothered anyone else. As long as Jake 2.0 stays outside, he has nothing to fear from us.<\/p>\n

Verne had his cataract surgery this month, and I thought it would be a good time to bake some cookies during his recovery.  So I whipped up a batch of giant molasses cookie dough and set mom and Verne to forming cookie-dough balls and coating them in large sugar granules. Verne had more fun eating them they baked.<\/p>\n

John has the idea to take mom for a ride in the RV. We have been sitting for a while, and the engine could use a good workout. We also need gas. Our furnace runs off of diesel, so we want to make sure we have a full tank with the upcoming cold weather.  The question is, how do we get her in the RV? She can barely lift her leg to get into the van, let alone up our tall steps. Well, leave it to John. He brought her out in her wheelchair to the ramp he created.<\/p>\n

He helped her walk up the ramp using her walker.<\/p>\n

And tada! She is in!<\/p>\n

Verne and I take our seats on the couch, and off we go. Mom had a perfect time.<\/p>\n

And it is a good thing we took that ride when we did because here we are mid-December, and we are blessed with the first Nor\u2019easter John, and I have experienced in more than eight years. Yay.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s good to see that John hasn\u2019t forgotten how to run a snow thrower. Verne is doing his part and shoveling where John can\u2019t get.<\/p>\n

Of course, Sunday, the kiddos were anxious to get G\u2019ma Wendy out in the snow. Luckily, I still have snow clothes just for such occasions.<\/p>\n

Party pooper Pappy John stayed inside peeking out only long enough to snap a picture of our snow adventures.<\/p>\n

The snow has melted enough that mama is ready for some outside time. She wants to go to the grocery store one last time, so off we go. I got her a cart, and we shopped!<\/p>\n

Christmas is only a few days away, and it is time to start preparing. Mama wants to cook. To the kitchen, John! I would have to say this is one of John and his mom\u2019s favorite things to do together, besides watching cooking shows.<\/p>\n
