It is 6am and we are waking up to the sound of birds, coyotes, and cows. In truth, it was the cows scratching up against the truck that woke us. These free ranging cows are certainly a strange sight out here in the wilderness.<\/font><\/p>\n

While John cooks our breakfast and heats our bath water, we sit and wait for the sunrise.  <\/font><\/p>\n

We’ve had a very attentive hummingbird in camp this morning.  He’s been checking out the truck’s taillights and us. <\/font>There are some red flowers near by that eventually catch his eye and off he goes. It\u2019s time for us to move on as well. <\/font><\/p>\n

As we approach Aspen it is apparent how it got its name. The trees stand proud, their white trunks contrasting with the surrounding  landscape. <\/font><\/p>\n

We were going to eat lunch in Aspen but we can’t find a place to park\u2026in the entire town! <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>In my mind, Aspen is this big ski town, but in reality is a little town about the size of Watkins Glen. It is Thursday, in the summer time and there isn\u2019t a parking spot to be found, I can\u2019t imagine what it is like in the winter time.<\/font><\/p>\n

No matter. We drive out of town and stop at one of the many pull offs and eat our lunch from our stash.<\/font> <\/p>\n

Our first exposure to a \u201cpass\u201d in Colorado is Independence Pass. I have never been so scared driving on a paved road as I am on this one.  <\/p>\n

It is so narrow in some places that it is only wide enough for one vehicle. The road is washed away in places right up to and sometimes past the white line. Okay not a big deal until you get a look at where the road has washed away to. <\/p>\n

The scenery is amazing and it helps keep my mind off of the road condition.<\/p>\n

Our next stop is Buena Vista where we will find a hotel, get washed up, and find a good restaurant.<\/p>\n
