Rise and shine! We are feeling much better this morning, but we know we are going to have to be careful about our sun exposure and the heat after our misfortune at the Badlands. Today\u2019s activities include visiting Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments. It\u2019s hard to imagine that there are mountains big enough to have faces carved into them<\/p>\n

We start seeing odd, tall mountains.<\/p>\n

Before you know it we arrive in the parking lot for Mt. Rushmore.<\/p>\n

Hmm, I thought it would be bigger.<\/p>\n

Washington, America\u2019s Father. Jefferson, main author of the Declaration of Independence. Roosevelt, the developer of the modern capitalist economy of the United States. Lincoln, preservation of the Union and the freedom of all her people.<\/p>\n

It is interesting how just a few details trick the eye into seeing Roosevelt as wearing eyeglasses when viewed from a distance.<\/p>\n

Close by is the Crazy Horse Monument and we decide to stop over and check it out. It is still under construction and is privately owned.<\/p>\n

Crazy Horse was an Oglala Sioux Indian Chief who fought against removal to a reservation in the Black Hills. He fought with Chief Sitting Bull for the Battle of the Little Bighorn. This is a picture of what the monument will look like when completed.<\/p>\n

Inside the visitor center they have a very unique motorcycle on display.<\/p>\n

There are many works of art displayed around the monument and we spent some time looking around.<\/p>\n

Next stop, the Black Hills National Park and Custer State Park in the hopes of seeing some buffalo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
